Featuring The Pawshala: Creating Peace & Harmony for You & Your dog

The Pawshala is a dog training centre in Belgaum, Karnataka, offering puppy training, home training, centre training, boarding with training and pre-puppy consultations. Founded by Aruna Naikwad, it has been running for over five years and has worked with over 200 dogs and their owners. Here is their story, their services and how to get the most out of a training session.

Their journey

The Pawshala began as a small training centre in Belgaum with a simple mission: to build a nurturing environment that supports the physical, mental and emotional well-being of every dog that walks in. They wanted to go beyond basic training and offer a place where dogs could grow, learn and become their best selves.

As word spread about their compassionate and effective approach, the services grew. The team realised that each dog is unique, with its own personality, needs and challenges. That pushed them to keep refining their methods, from basic obedience to specialised behavioural sessions.

Their services

Whether you are in Belgaum or visiting from out of town, there is something for every dog parent:

  • Puppy training: tailored sessions that build a strong foundation for a well-behaved adult dog.
  • Dog training at home: within Belgaum city limits, training comes to your doorstep, which is convenient for you and comfortable for your dog.
  • Dog training at their centre: a focused environment where dogs learn under experienced trainers.
  • Boarding and training: for locals and out-of-town visitors, so your dog is cared for and keeps learning while you are away.
  • Pre-puppy consultations: thinking of adding a new member to the family? The team helps you choose the right puppy for a smooth, joyful transition.

Transformations you can believe in

One of the best parts of the journey has been seeing dogs change. A once timid dog who was scared of strangers now happily greets visitors with a wagging tail after just a few sessions. Another family arrived unsure which puppy would suit them, and with guidance from The Pawshala they found the right companion. Every dog has potential, and it is their job to help each one shine.

"At The Pawshala, we treat every dog as a unique individual with specific needs and personality traits. Our training programs are customized to ensure the best results for both the dog and the owner. We emphasize a compassionate and positive approach to training, ensuring that the experience is enjoyable and stress-free."

Know the founder

Aruna Naikwad began her journey in dog training with a deep passion for dogs and a special bond with her own dog, Riku, a Rottweiler with a challenging history. Riku had a history of biting only women, yet Aruna adopted him, determined to help him with his behaviour. That was the start of her commitment to understanding and working with dogs.

She immersed herself in training, learning from experts and reading extensively. When Riku passed away, she channelled her grief into something positive, training local Indies in his memory. She was not yet a professional, but her dedication was clear. Realising this was her calling, she took many online and offline courses in dog training and animal behaviour and turned her passion into a profession. The Pawshala is the result: a space where dogs can learn, play and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

Join the Pawshala family

The Pawshala is more than a training centre. It is a place where dogs are cherished, respected and given the tools to lead fulfilling lives. They are proud to have served over 200 happy dogs and their owners, helping them build stronger bonds.

How to get the most from a training programme

  • Be clear on your goal. Is it good manners, confidence around strangers, or settling into a new home? Tell the trainer at the start.
  • Choose the format that suits your dog. Home sessions help dogs who are nervous in new places, while a centre offers a focused setting with fewer distractions at home.
  • Train the owner too. Programmes work best when the whole family uses the same words, signals and rules.
  • Keep sessions short and positive. Praise and play are powerful rewards, and calm, consistent practice beats long sessions.
  • Practise daily. A few minutes a day at home keeps new skills fresh.
  • Ask about progress. Ask the trainer how your dog is doing and what to practise before the next session.
  • Set up your home. Keep a quiet spot for your dog to rest between sessions.
  • Be patient. Every dog learns at its own pace, so celebrate small wins.

Thinking of a new puppy?

A pre-puppy consultation is a good idea before you commit. Think about your home, your daily routine, your family and how much time you can give.
